Two inmates found dead in South Carolina detention center housing unit
Two inmates were found dead in their housing units at the Greenville County Detention Center Thursday.
Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said in a news release the men were unresponsive when paramedics got to the jail and they were pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.
He identified them as Allan Lindsay Zach, 36, and Randy Eugene Broome, 45.
Jail records for the two men were not available but The Greenville News reported in December 2020 Zach was arrested for felony DUI.
Autopsies were conducted Friday morning. Evans said cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
SLED is handling the investigation. Spokesperson Renee Wunderlich said no further details on the investigation were available Friday morning.
The Greenville News in January reported 27 people had died at the jail between 2008 and 2020 after an inmate died at the Greenville County Detention Center.
His mother told The Greenville News her son, David Kenneth Posey, had hanged himself and was under suicide watch.
