SC woman finds messages in wine bottle on Lake Murray. Here’s what they say

Katelyn and Austin Moody pulled this message from a bottle found in Lake Murray.

A drifting bottle caught Katelyn Moody’s attention as she and her husband, Austin, boated on Lake Murray over the weekend.

Austin assumed it was trash and guided the boat over to pick it up.

It was a Bay Bridge wine bottle and something was inside.

“I was like ‘We found a message in a bottle,’” Katelyn Moody told News 19.

Six messages were written on a piece of paper and nestled inside a zip lock bag. The photo looks like several different hand writings.

“Family is everything,” one said. Another: “Do everything you can to help others in need and to be happy. Time goes by so fast so enjoy it.”

Then there’s “May life be like a roll of toilet paper, long and useful.”

There’s a jokester in every crowd.

Curious about the origin, Katelyn Moody posted photos on the Lake Murray Life Facebook page on Sunday. Reaction was swift. People responded with “cool” and “I love that.”

And then came the other messages, such as “It is cute until you are getting stitches in your foot from the broken glass bottle. Bottles float to shore and break and become trash.”

Others worried about kids on tubes crashing their faces into it.

One said, “It’s still trash, but they could have at least dated it.”

And, “we don’t need to give the idiots anymore ideas on how to pollute the lake.”

One person remarked about the name Katelyn written on the paper and Moody’s name as if it was some sort of conspiracy. And a treatise on the many different spellings of the name ensued.

Then came what some might call the voice of reason:

“Could y’all get your panties out a wad. Did it hurt you? Did it affect your sleep? Did it ruin your monthly gross income? Did it kill your family member? Calm down, it’s a bottle.”

In all, by midday Tuesday 671 responded with a like or heart emoji and 57 comments had been posted.

Yet, the mystery holds. The drinker of Bay Bridge, a California wine made especially for Kroger, remains as yet unnamed.
