King won’t seek re-election to Richland One school board after 10 years of service
A longtime member of the Richland School District One board of commissioners will not seek re-election this year.
Beatrice King, who has represented District 3 on the Richland One board for the last decade, announced in a Monday statement that she will not run for the seat again this year.
“A decade of service to the children and families of District One has given me an incredible sense of fulfillment,” King said in the statement. “It is with very mixed emotions that I have decided to not offer for re-election. I am proud of the exemplary status of the two high schools represented by (District 3) — Dreher and A.C. Flora. I have, however, worked to advance all of District One schools.”
There will be three Richland One seats up for election this year: District 1, District 3 and the at-large seat currently held by Robert Lominack. Filing for the nonpartisan elections will be in August.
King got her masters in international business from the University of South Carolina in 1992 and has three sons who attended Richland One schools. She said she’ll continue to be an advocate for the district.
“While I will miss serving on the board of commissioners, I look forward to the next chapter, and I will continue to be present for the community of Richland One,” King said. “My heart will always be with the importance of high standards for public education for the community we serve as well as the assurance of successful futures for our students.”
