West Columbia woman dies after car crashes with tractor trailer

A West Columbia woman died Monday morning in a car crash in Lexington County.

Debra Lee Kittrell, 67, of West Columbia, died in the collision, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. The crash happened at 6:57 a.m. Monday on Old Dunbar Road near Burroughs Avenue.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Tyler Tidwell said there were two vehicles involved in the crash. A 2015 Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling east on Old Dunbar, as was a 2013 Chevy Malibu. The Malibu ran into the back of the tractor trailer, the trooper said.

Kittrell was a passenger in the Malibu. The coroner’s office said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Malibu was taken to an area hospital. The two occupants of the tractor trailer were uninjured.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
