12-year-old missing after falling into Saluda River, deputies say
A 12-year-old boy is missing after falling onto the Saluda River Wednesday afternoon.
Crews searched until nightfall and resumed the operation Thursday morning.
Sheriff Hobart Lewis on the scene in Pelzer Wednesday night told WYFF the boy was playing with friends near the river when the boy, who was not identified, fell in.
When the friends didn’t see him resurface, they ran to tell adults, who then called the police. The delay complicated the effort as did heavy rain in the area.
About 85 people have taken part in the search, including divers and officers in boats. Drones have also been used.
The area is a popular play area that includes a rope swing, slide and a ladder.
