Midlands woman claims top prize in SC lottery scratch-off game

A Midlands woman is the latest top-prize winner in one of the South Carolina Education Lottery’s $2 scratch-off games.

“I started hollering,” the woman, who did not wish to be identified, told lottery officials after realizing the first of three tickets she bought was a $30,000 winner.

She told lottery officials she’d spent some of the money already, given a portion to her church and is saving the rest “for a rainy day.”

The woman bought the tickets at H & E Mart, a convenience store on Beltline Boulevard in northeast Columbia. The store received a $300 commission for selling the claimed ticket.

Her win is the second top prize claimed in the state’s Carolina Gold 20X game, which has odds of 1 in 528,000. There are still three top prizes of $30,000 remaining, lottery officials said.
