Driver killed in Richland County crash after car runs off SC road

One person was killed Friday morning in a single-car crash in northern Richland County, South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was traveling south about 4:30 a.m. along a heavily wooded stretch of Mullis Road, two miles north of Blythewood, when their 2008 Nissan Maxima ran off the road into a ditch and struck a tree, Master Trooper Brandon Bolt said.

The Nissan’s driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.

At least 542 people have died in traffic collisions in South Carolina this year, including at least 35 in Richland County, according to S.C. Department of Public Safety data.
