4-year-old SC girl’s body found after she was reported missing; officials calling death suspicious

A 4-year-old girl was reported missing Tuesday and within a short time of deputies arriving at her Pelzer residence her body was found in nearby woods.

Mike Ellis of the Greenville County Coroner’s Office called her death “suspicious” and said more information may be available Wednesday after an autopsy.

He would not say whether there were visible signs of trauma, but did say the child died sometime on Tuesday.

“The family that my investigators have talked to is devastated,” he said.

The child has not been identified.

Greenville County Hobart Lewis, who was at the scene on Chevy Chase Boulevard in southern Greenville County, said his office was called around 2 p.m. and arrived within 10 minutes.

He declined to answer any questions about the investigation.

“Tragic loss of another child,” Ellis said.
