A new Taco Bell is coming to this busy Lexington area. Construction has already started

It looks like residents and hungry travelers in Lexington will soon have a new place to pick up that cheesy bean and rice burrito with extra Fire sauce.

A new Taco Bell restaurant is under construction in the 1000 block of South Lake Drive in Lexington. That’s just south of Interstate 20 and about 2.5 miles south of downtown Lexington.

Construction crews were on-site working on the restaurant on Monday afternoon. There is a sign on the site announcing the Taco Bell is coming soon and advising those who wish to apply for a job to text “BELL” to 97211.

The new Taco Bell is coming to a corridor where there are a number of fast food and restaurant options nearby, including Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Maurice’s, Waffle House and Bojangles. The Taco Bell site is right next door to the Lexington County health and human services building and across the street from a CVS pharmacy.

There are more than a dozen Taco Bell locations in the Columbia and Lexington area. The chain has continued to make moves in the Midlands, as a new location for Blythewood was announced earlier this year.

Potential customers likely won’t be a problem for the taco spot. State Department of Transportation traffic data shows 56,000 cars per day traverse I-20 near the site, and 28,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of South Lake Drive.
