Opening date set for new Japanese ramen restaurant in Lexington. Here’s what they’ll have

A new Japanese restaurant is set to open its doors in Lexington.

Hokkaido Ramen House, located at 205 Columbia Ave. suite B, announced on Facebook that it will open Thursday, Aug. 18. Ganbei, an associated restaurant located in Lexington, also announced on its Facebook page that Hokkaido will open Thursday.

Hokkaido noted in its post that it will serve “authentic and delicious ramen noodles” and that it was looking forward to greeting customers.

The new Hokkaido is located in a Columbia Avenue shopping center that also includes Domino’s, Brothers and Beer, New China and other businesses. The shopping center is right behind a Rush’s restaurant.

Potential customers shouldn’t be an issue, as Hokkaido is coming to a high traffic area of the town. State Department of Transportation traffic counts show 33,500 cars per day come down that section of Columbia Avenue.

Additional nearby businesses include the bustling Flight Deck shopping center, McDonald’s, Walgreens and a number of others.

According to menus posted online, Hokkaido will have a number of savory ramen bowls and other Japanese dishes. For instance, one of the items is a spicy ramen, which is includes a rich pork and light chicken broth with a blend of chilis, garlic, ginger spices and a shoyu base. Toppings for that one include a slice of grilled pork, marinated egg, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, bok choy, green onions and chili oil.

The restaurant also has a host of appetizers, such as edamame, potstickers and spinach cheese sticks, as well as a dessert menu. Among the dessert items is the Death by Chocolate, which is an “irresistibly rich, velvety, layered chocolate cake drizzled with fudge.”

There are a number of Hokkaido locations across the U.S., including in Montana, Indiana, Idaho, Texas and Illinois.
