Nearly 300 new jobs coming to the Midlands in $53 million manufacturing project
A leading pet supply retail company is establishing a distribution center in Orangeburg County, a move that will bring in nearly 300 new jobs.
Pet Supplies Plus, which is one of the largest pet retail franchises in America, with more than 600 stores (including four in the Midlands), will invest $53 million in a distribution center in Orangeburg County that will include 275 new jobs, according to a news release from Gov. Henry McMaster’s office.
The distribution center will be located in the Shamrock Commerce Center at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Interstate 26 at exit 154. The release said the facility will be “state of the art” and will increase the company’s distribution capabilities across the South. It’s the fourth distribution center nationwide for Pet Supplies Plus.
“With its strategic location, Orangeburg County is brimming with potential, and this major $53 million investment is proof of that,” McMaster said in a statement. “We thank Pet Supplies Plus for its commitment to our state and people.”
The distribution center is expected to open in 2023. Those interested in working there can visit petsuppliesplus.com/about-us/careers.
“The new distribution center is a win-win for the Orangeburg community, Pet Supplies Plus and pet parents across the United States,” Pet Supplies Plus CEO Chris Rowland said in a statement. “The distribution center will create highly desirable logistics jobs, as well as allow for efficient distribution of a wide assortment of pet products to Pet Supplies Plus stores in the region.”
