A man died Thursday after a single-vehicle crash in Sumter County.

Sumter Coroner Robbie Baker said the deceased is Charles Edward McCray, 41, of Kershaw County. He died Thursday at Prisma Health Tuomey hospital.

The coroner’s office said the wreck happened at about 11 a.m. Thursday on Queen Chapel Road. McCray was ejected from his vehicle and was taken to the hospital, where he died, the coroner said.

South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say McCray was driving east on Queen Chapel Road in a Honda Accord when the vehicle went to the right, hit an embankment and overturned.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and coroner’s office continue to investigate.
