A Columbia hotel has earned honors as one of the best in the US. See where it ranked

A downtown Columbia hotel has picked up a pair of national honors.

Hotel Trundle, located at 1224 Taylor St. in Columbia’s Main Street District, landed in the top 10 in two categories of USA Today’s recent 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. It was listed at No. 4 in the Best Boutique Hotel category and No. 9 in Best Historic Hotel.

The hotel will celebrate with a champagne and grit event from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Hotel Trundle lobby, where there will be champagne, light hors d’oeuvres and music, according to a release.

“We are incredibly honored to receive two USA Today 10Best List awards this year it is a HUGE recognition!,” owners Rita Patel and Marcus Munse said in a statement. “The level of community support we have received, from the moment we opened our doors, is one of the most rewarding components of Hotel Trundle and we could never achieve these heights without everyone voting (in the recent USA Today awards).”

Hotel Trundle announced earlier this year that it is planning an expansion, which it calls the Flutter Wing, that aims to open in early 2023. It will be located at 1544 Main St., above Drake’s Duck-in and around the corner from the hotel’s main spot on Taylor Street.

The Flutter Wing will have an outdoor patio and five hotel-style guest rooms, with one of those being a large bridal suite. The expansion will occupy about 2,500 square feet at 1544 Main, not including the 500-square-foot patio.
