Midlands motorcycle rider dies in weekend accident

A motorcyclist died Saturday after a wreak on a Midlands roadway Saturday evening.

The unidentified motorcycle rider lost control of his bike and spilled onto Lachicotte Road near U.S. 601 south of Lugoff, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday, said Master Trooper Gary Miller with the Highway Patrol. No other vehicles were believed to be involved in the accident, Miller said.

The rider was identified as Ronny Layton Jr., 57, of Lugoff by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.
