Columbia firefighters battle Sunday morning blaze in northeast Richland County

Columbia firefighters battled a large home fire Sunday morning in northeast Richland County.

According to social media posts from the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, firefighters responded at about 9 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 2800 block of Knightbridge Road. That’s east of Two Notch Road, not far from Windsor Elementary School.

When firefighters arrived, they reportedly found “heavy fire” coming from one corner of the home, with flames pushing into the attic. They were also told one person was still trapped inside the house.

Crews went inside and got that person out of the house. That person and another resident were transported from the scene by Richland County EMS, the fire department said.

Fire officials said the house suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage, and that the cause of the fire is being investigated by the county fire marshal’s office.
