Allen University scholarship fund honors alumni in recent church murders

Allen University has created a scholarship fund to honor three alumni who lost their lives in the historic Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church massacre June 17 in Charleston.

The Allen University alumni include:

▪ Sen. Clementa Pinckney, business administration, magna cum laude (Class of 1995) from Ridgeland.

▪ Daniel Lee Simmons, Jr., social science (Class of 1967) from Mullins.

▪ Tywanza Sanders, business administration (Class of 2014) from Charleston, S.C.

The official scholarship will be named named the Simmons, Pinckney and Sanders Allen University Scholarship Fund. The fund is intended to help Allen University continue its legacy of developing leaders who make a difference in their communities where they live and work.
