Lexington Mediterranean restaurant closes, but will reopen with another brand

A Lexington Mediterranean restaurant has shuttered and a new brand will emerge at the same location.

The Zoës Kitchen at 5166 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington is now closed, but the storefront there will transition to a Cava restaurant in coming months.

Construction work was underway at the site when a reporter briefly stopped by on Monday morning. There are signs on the door saying Cava is coming soon, along with a QR code directing those seeking employment to visit cava.com/careers/apply.

Cava has locations in 21 states, according to a locator tool on its website. Its menu allows diners to customize bowls, starting with a base such as salad, grains or pita, and then add on various dips, spreads, meats, and vegetables.

According to industry publication QSR Magazine, the company behind Cava purchased the Zoës chain in a $300 million deal several years ago.

This is the second Midlands Zoës Kitchen to close to make way for Cava. The Forest Acres Zoës at 4855 Forest Drive closed in August and work is underway to switch it to Cava.
