A motorist was killed Friday night after hitting a guardrail and then being struck by a passing car.

Around 10:50 p.m., the driver of a 2004 Toyota Tundra traveling east on I-26 veered off the road to the right and struck a barrier, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brian Lee.

The driver then got out of the pickup and was soon hit by a passing Kia sedan, Lee said.

In a statement, the highway patrol described the incident as a “two vehicle collision.”

The fatal wreck took place near mile marker 175, two miles west of the Harleyville exit, troopers said.

WCSC reported that highway remained closed for more than three hours after the crash.

As of Saturday morning, the victim in the crash has not been identified. The collision is currently under investigation.
