Renovations on a Columbia Target store could wrap up soon. Here’s what we know
Extensive renovation work at a Columbia Target store could be winding to a close.
A company spokesman told The State on Monday that the renovations and upgrades at the Target at 6090 Garners Ferry Road are “slated to be completed later this year.” The work has been going on since the spring, and the store has remained open during the renovations.
On Tuesday morning, numerous construction trailers were still situated on the west side of the Target’s parking lot, and workers and heavy equipment were on the move at the site. A reporter took a walk through the inside of the store, where employees were busy stocking shelves and transitioning holiday offerings from Halloween goods to Christmas fare.
Target has reimagined 1,000 of its stores in the last several years, modernizing their look and functionality. One of the most noticeable changes at the Garners Ferry store is the addition of an in-house Ulta beauty section. Other improvements to the Garners Ferry Road Target, according to a spokesman, include:
▪ Adding modern decor and fixtures, additional mannequins and displays, and specialty LED lighting, all of which the company hopes will “create a shopping experience for guests that is both hip and cool, and warm and inviting.”
▪ Dynamic merchandise displays to “provide guests with inspiration and style and help them visualize how to pair products together.”
▪ Updated spaces and expanded services to support order pickup, drive-up, and returns and exchanges.
▪ The addition of a nursing space.
▪ Larger spaces between checkout lanes.
▪ Updated restrooms with touchless features, such as hand dryers.
The Target on Garners Ferry is in the Shoppes at Woodhill shopping center, which also includes Party City, Bed Bath & Beyond, and other retailers. There are four Targets in the Midlands: the one on Garners Ferry, one on Harbison Boulevard, one on Two Notch Road in northeast Columbia, and another in Lexington.
