Columbia’s COMET offering free rides to the polls on Election Day
COMET riders voting on Election Day Tuesday will have free rides to the polls.
COMET’s fixed route buses and Dial-a-ride transit (DART) services will be free for those going to vote in Tuesday’s elections, the Columbia transit agency said.
“We realize how important it is for people to have access to the political process and The COMET wants to ensure that transportation is available to help those needing a ride to the polls,” said LeRoy DesChamps, COMET’s chief operating officer. “Voting is an essential activity that provides everyone with an equal opportunity to let their voice be heard and just knowing what bus or route to take to the polls is the first step in that process.”
Polls open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Early voting runs through Saturday, Nov. 5.

“The COMET has a long history of ensuring that people needing transportation to the polls are able to get it by using our services,” said Allison Terracio, chair of COMET’s board, and a Richland County Council member.
