A bakery in Columbia’s Vista district announced it would be shutting its doors for good.

Cupcake DownSouth, located at 1213 Lincoln St. in the Vista, said on its website and social media channels that it will be closing up shop. The last day at the Lincoln Street shop will be Wednesday, Dec. 7.

A Cupcake DownSouth location in Mount Pleasant also will be closing. The last day at that store will be Dec. 14.

“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the rumors that we are closing our doors,” the business posted on its website. “As a small, locally owned business, the severe inflation of costs that came as a result of the pandemic has just become too much to withstand.”

Cupcake DownSouth was initially founded in Charleston in 2006 and later opened the bakeries in Mount Pleasant and Columbia.

“We hope to see you before we close, simply because we consider many of you our friends,” the business said on its website. “No matter what, we wish each of you very well! We will always remember your smiling faces and kind words. Thank you!”
