A manufacturing company is set to bring dozens of new jobs to the Midlands.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster’s office announced Friday that Orion Performance Compounds would open a facility in Kershaw County. The company will make a $13 million investment in the operation, which will create 54 new jobs.

According to a news release, Orion makes “highly engineered thermoplastic compounds” and the company will “blend melted resins with carbon fiber, lubricants and other additives to form custom materials for use in final markets such as automotive, aerospace, medical and more.”

The facility will be at 15 Mesa Lane in Lugoff and will be 50,000 square feet. Orion is aiming to have operations up and running by the second quarter of 2023.

“The Lugoff, S.C. site was selected after an extensive multi-state search,” Orion chief operating officer Tom Drye said in a statement. “The state of South Carolina and Kershaw County were very welcoming to our planned business and removed any hurdles along the way.”

Meanwhile, McMaster said in a statement that Orion is “joining the increasing number of companies that call our state home, making a positive impact on our communities and economy every day.”
