A new battery materials manufacturing facility is planned for Richland County in the same industrial park as Mark Anthony Brewing, according to county documents.

The plan, dubbed Project Viper in county documents, promises an investment of $323 million and the creation of 310 full-time jobs in exchange for tax breaks from the county.

The county has not publicly specified what company is behind the plan.

The company is expected to purchase one 92-acre parcel and one 114-acre parcel from the county in the Pineview Industrial Park on Shop Road.

Richland County Council is expected to consider the plan during its Jan. 3 regular meeting.

The project comes as Richland County leaders consider a handful of economic develop projects that are seeking tax credits.

In November, the council heard a proposal for a nearly $1 billion unspecified manufacturing plant, dubbed Project Golden Eagle, and later approved tax credits for the effort, which remains under wraps.
