The University of South Carolina will announce what it is calling “a proposed major development project” on Tuesday, according to a media advisory from the university.

Ray Tanner, USC’s athletic director, and Ed Walton, USC’s chief financial officer and executive vice president for administration, will discuss the project Tuesday during a media briefing. The project will be officially announced early Tuesday afternoon, according to the advisory.

No additional details were provided.

In November, The State reported on ongoing rumors that the university was planning to buy the S.C. State Fairgrounds, which are adjacent to the stadium.

While the university and the State Fairgrounds denied the rumors, state Sen. Darrell Jackson, a Richland Democrat, told The State that USC was eyeing another piece of property in the area.

“(They’re) working on another project in proximity to that area,” Jackson told The State.
