USC student injured, road on Columbia campus closed, officials say
A student was injured in what authorities called a public safety incident on the University of South Carolina’s campus in Columbia Tuesday.
The incident was not a threat to public safety, USC spokesman Jeff Stensland told The State.
Information about what happened was not available. But the incident involved a student and occurred in the Devine Street area of the campus, Stensland said.
The student was taken to an area hospital, according to Stensland. USC Police described the incident as “multi-trauma.”
Road closures were put in place on the stretch of Devine Street between Main and Assembly streets, according to police. That’s near the Jones Physical Science Center, in the area between the Darla Moore School of Business and the Honors College Residence Hall.
Police asked people to avoid the area and obey officials.
Although the roads were closed, the buildings were still open and classes were not canceled, Stensland said.
