A new business plaza could soon spice up Elgin’s growing Interstate 20 corridor.

Six new connected retail spaces, one with a drive-thru, are planned for Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin, north of I-20.

The new plaza, dubbed Spears Creek Plaza, would occupy roughly 1.5 acres at 567 Spears Creek Church Road, in front of the Woodcreek Farms Apartments and across from another business plaza.

Bill McDaniels, president of the McDaniels Auto Group that operates dealerships in Columbia and Charleston, submitted the site plans for the project. Efforts to reach him for this article were unsuccessful.

The site plan does not identify if there are specific kinds of businesses being sought for the space. The building would offer nearly 8,500 square feet of space, divided into six storefronts. Parking would also be provided.

The Columbia Planning Commission will consider the project at a meeting March 9.
