Woman finds human skull near this SC park. Here are the details
Human remains were found Tuesday in a wooded area not too far from Unity Park, Greenville’s newest and largest city park.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said in a news release that a woman found a skull Feb. 27, which they estimated had been there for about two years.
Investigators also received a backpack but did not say what was in it.
After a search by officers from the Greenville Police Department and Coroner’s Office, they determined a bigger search party was needed to scour seven acres.
On Tuesday, they found the rest of the remains, which have been “presumptively” identified and the family notified. An external exam was to be conducted Wednesday and another exam later by an anthropologist.
They have not identified the cause of death.
Additional agencies taking part in the search were Greenville County Emergency Management, Greenville County Emergency Response Team, Greenville City Fire, Greenville City Police, and Greenville County Emergency Medical Services.
