A shop with smoothies, acai bowls and other treats is headed for Irmo.

CocoBowlz, which has a number of locations across South Carolina, will open a shop at 1100 Dutch Fork Road in Irmo this spring, according to posts on the company’s social media channels. That’s in a shopping center that includes Pizza Hut, Shoe Dept., GNC and a number of other brands. The center is right next door to a Walmart.

“We’re beyond thrilled watching our CocoBowlz brand grow throughout this amazing state,” the company said on Facebook.

Cocobowlz specializes in bowls with an abundance of flavors. They typically come with a base of acai or pitaya fruit, and a host of toppings can be added.

For instance, one menu item is the Jenny Bowl, which comes with granola topped with banana, blueberries, strawberries, cacao nibs, coconut flakes and peanut butter drizzle. The restaurant also offers a deep menu of smoothies, including the Beast Mode, which contains organic acai, banana, strawberries, vanilla whey protein, almond milk, peanut butter, chia seeds and flax seeds.

Other Cocobowlz locations in South Carolina include stores in Greenville, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Clemson and other Upstate spots. In December a CocoBowlz opened at 2015 Devine St. in Columbia’s Five Points, in the former Sub Station II location.

The Dutch Fork Road corridor west of Interstate 26 in Irmo is home to a host of retail businesses and is continuing to grow. Aldi recently announced it will build a grocery store in the 1100 block of Dutch Fork Road, across the street from the Walmart and the shopping center where CocoBowlz will be. More than 20,000 cars per day pass down that stretch of road, per state traffic count data.
