On-duty police officer airlifted to hospital after crash on Midlands road, SC cops say
An on-duty officer was hospitalized after a crash on a Midlands road, the Sumter Police Department said Thursday.
The collision happened at about 8 p.m. Wednesday on the U.S. 76/U.S. 378 Bypass, police said in a news release.
The officer, whose name has not been publicly released, was flown to a hospital in Columbia where he’s in stable condition as of Thursday morning, according to the release. Further information on the officer’s condition was not made available.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the cause of the collision, and if any other vehicles were involved, was not available.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. There was no word if police, or another law enforcement agency, are investigating anything that led up to the collision.
