A fire tore through a vacant, 2-story Five Points home Sunday night, decimating the structure. No injuries were reported, but Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins called the fire “suspicious” because the home had no power, WLTX reported.

The home at 929 Pine Street, at the corner of Pine and Pendleton Streets, has been boarded up and is not connected to any power source, Columbia Fire Department spokesperson Michael DeSumma confirmed to The State Monday.

There was no word on the cause of the fire, and DeSumma said he could not provide any information on the investigation, nor could he say how long the investigation would last.

Smoke rises from a burning house and fire engines occupy the street outside.

Fire crews arrived at the house around 6:45 p.m. Sunday and the fire was already “well-involved,” DeSumma said. Firefighters sent into the structure to battle the blaze were soon pulled out as the fire grew.

DeSumma estimated it took about 30 minutes for crews to put out the fire from outside, while also ensuring the blaze did not spread to nearby homes.

The home is owned by Abraham Investments II LLC, which bought the property in 2022 from another Limited Liability Company, JDJ Properties. The State could not immediately reach a property owner for comment.
