Lexington will soon have a new place to get a coffee fix.

Clutch Coffee Bar, a growing chain that has locations in various spots in the Carolinas, is planning a new shop at 308 Columbia Ave. in Lexington. That’s just east of Main Street, not far from McDonald’s and across the street from Truist bank and Captain D’s.

The land for Clutch at 308 Columbia Ave. is currently being cleared and prepped, and town of Lexington officials said Clutch has a building permit for the site.

This will be Clutch Coffee Bar’s second location in the Midlands. It opened a spot in January at 4716 Devine St. in Columbia. The company also has locations across North Carolina, including in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

The company’s menu is highlighted by a number of mochas, lattes, energy drinks and shakes, as well as some sandwiches and breakfast items. Among the drinks is a mocha called the Base Jumper, which the Clutch website calls a “caramel + chocolate adrenaline rush.” The breakfast food menu includes, among other things, a kickin’ chicken and cheese biscuit.

The Lexington County Chronicle recently reported that Clutch was aiming for a midsummer opening for the Columbia Avenue location.

Clutch will be coming to a busy commercial corridor in Lexington. State Department of Transportation statistics show that more than 31,000 cars pass down Columbia Avenue every day. Lexington County, in general, has shown steady growth in recent decades, going from 216,000 residents in 2000 to more than 300,000 residents as of 2021, per census data.
