An investigation is underway after a person died in the parking lot of a Walmart Supercenter, the Lexington Police Department said Wednesday night.

It was after 9 p.m. when police reported the death outside of the Walmart at 5556 Sunset Boulevard. That’s near the junction with North Lake Drive in an area densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants.

Police said there is no indication of foul play or threat to public safety.

There was no gun or shooting involved in the death, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Cameron Mortenson.

“This was an isolated incident where someone died in the parking lot from another cause that didn’t involve a firearm,” Mortenson said.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office, which is also investigating the fatality, has not publicly identified the person who died, or released a cause of death.

Police said more information could be released as it becomes available.
