An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found in an abandoned warehouse, the Aiken County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.

The body of 60-year-old Alvin Patrick Jr. was discovered at about 1 p.m. Monday, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

Patrick was found by a friend inside the abandoned warehouse in the 100 block of Williamsburg Street, according to the release. That’s near Richland Avenue, about 2 miles from Aiken High School.

The friend flagged down a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper driving along Richland Avenue, and then the Aiken Department of Public Safety was notified, Ables said.

There was no word what Patrick was doing in the warehouse. No other injuries were reported.

No cause of death has been announced by the coroner’s office, but Ables said foul play is not suspected. Information about when Patrick died was not available.

An autopsy in Newberry has been scheduled, according to the release.

Both the coroner’s office and department of public safety are investigating the death.
