Unidentified human remains found in Lexington County creek, coroner looks for information
An unidentified set of human remains were found in a creek in Lexington County on May 25, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said. The office is looking for help identifying the body.
The body was first reported on May 25 at around 6:37 a.m., according to a release from the coroner’s office on June 1. The remains were found in Kinley Creek behind a row of homes on the 900 block of Lockner Road, near the Publix on Harbison Boulevard.
Around 90% of the skeletal remains of a “John Doe” were recovered from the scene, according to the release.
The remains are believed to be of a white or Hispanic male, aged 30 to 45, between 6’0 and 6’3 inches tall.
The remains also indicated healed past injuries including a past broken nose, past fractured right clavicle, and past rib fractures. These injuries are not believed to be recent, according to the release. The remains showed no sign of recent trauma, Fisher said.
There were dental fillings from the past five to 10 years present. There is a tattoo on the upper arm/bicep area of the word “Dad” in all uppercase letters, possibly with another image or word above it. Whether the tattoo was on the right or left arm was unclear due to decomposition, as of the time the statement was released.
The only clothing found at the scene was a single black, size 12, Brahma-brand work boot, with no sock, still attached to the body.
No potential cause of death was released, but Fisher said the body was found in close proximity to several homeless camps in the area, which could be related.
“Otherwise we don’t have any idea why he would even be in that neighborhood,” she said.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is investigating. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the coroner’s office at 803-359-8439.
