This Columbia wings restaurant is spreading to Five Points, more Midlands spots. Here’s where
The Midlands is about to become Peebles country.
The restaurant and bar, which has long had a spot at 1332 Rosewood Drive and opened a shop last year at 902 Gervais St. in the Vista, is set to open three more locations in the area, according to owner Will Peebles.
The first of the new wave will be at 10708 Broad River Road in Irmo. That location, which is near a Chick-fil-A and a Freddy’s Steakburgers, was the former site of a Pedro’s Mexican restaurant. That Peebles spot could open by the end of June, according to the owner.
Then, likely in September, a Peebles location will be opened at 819 Harden St. in Five Points. There is a sign hanging in the window at the Five Points address, touting Peebles’ coming plans. That location formerly was home to barbecue spot Southern Belly, which closed last year.
Also in the fall, there will be a Peebles restaurant opening at 2538 Broad St. in Camden. Aside from being a restaurant, the Camden location will also serve as a hub and distribution center of sorts for all the Peebles locations.
While all five Peebles locations will serve chicken wings — they are the company’s signature item, Will Peebles said — each of the five spots will put a special emphasis on certain menu items. For instance, the Rosewood location is known for its Philly sandwiches, and the Vista location focuses on burgers.
Peebles said the Five Points location will put emphasis on barbecue and soul food, the Irmo spot will feature seafood and Cajun cuisine, and the Camden hub will put a highlight on steaks.
Will Peebles said local residents have been greatly anticipating the new restaurants. He said the Irmo location has been of particular interest, with residents peppering him for an opening date when he was out shopping in the Harbison area recently.
“I’m looking forward to that one,” the owner said.
Will Peebles said he likes the idea of having spots now running or planned for various districts or neighborhoods in the Midlands.
“We make the joke about having a Peebles on every corner, the way it has kind of worked out here,” the restaurateur said, with a chuckle. “But it has been kind of cool doing it. It has kind of been sinking in here lately, what we are trying to get done.”
