There will be a new spot for Mexican fare near the heart of downtown Lexington.

Que! Bueno Mexican Bar and Grill is planning to open at 407 North Lake Drive, not far from Main Street in Lexington. It will be going into the space that formerly was home to Comfort Scratch Kitchen.

There are Que! Bueno “coming soon” banners hanging at the restaurant. There is no indication of a specific opening date on the site, but construction and preparation work appeared to be underway inside when a reporter peeked through the window Wednesday morning. The business said in a June 8 Facebook post that it is planning to open next week.

This will be the second Que! Bueno location in the Midlands area. The company opened a restaurant last year at 7320 Broad River Road in Irmo, in the popular Kennerly shopping center not far from Interstate 26. The menu at the Irmo location includes a host of Mexican favorites, including nachos, burritos, chimichangas, fajitas and more.

Commercial real estate firm DeWees announced earlier this spring that Que! Bueno had leased the space at 407 North Lake in Lexington, and the news was first noted by the Lexington County Chronicle.

The general downtown Lexington area, particularly Main Street, continues to be a popular area for dining and hospitality, with bars and eateries lining the corridor not far from the county courthouse. And there are more on the way, with Molto Vino wine bar and TakoSushi having announced plans for shops at the corner of Main and Church streets and Barrio Tacos announcing a restaurant in the Icehouse on Main building.

About 15,000 cars per day pass down the stretch of North Lake Drive in the spot where Que! Bueno is setting up shop, per the state Department of Transportation.
