A non-profit is hosting a run to honor the Irmo firefighter who died in the line of duty last month.

Running 4 Heroes will host a 1-mile run Friday in honor of James Muller, who died battling a structure fire at the Tropical Ridge Apartments off Columbia’s Stoneridge Drive on May 26. The Irmo Fire Department was called in to help battle the blaze, which displaced 19 people. Six other firefighters were injured when the structure collapsed on them inside the building.

Running 4 Heroes organizes runs that raise money for first responders across the country. Friday’s run will start at 6 p.m. at Crossroads Intermediate School in Irmo at 6949 St. Andrews Road. The event is listed online as “weather permitting,” but the forecast for Friday evening is sunny and clear.

The public is invited to join in the run.
