UPDATE: Power restored at Columbia airport after lengthy outage caused by drainage leak
Power was restored Saturday evening at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport after a drainage leak caused a lengthy, daylong outage that triggered some flight delays.
“Power has been restored to the airside of the terminal and all systems are back online,” the airport said in a Facebook post just after 7 p.m. Saturday. “We apologize for this inconvenience to our passengers traveling today and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.”
At about 2 a.m. Saturday, “a drainage leak caused the main electrical power bus to short resulting in a power outage on the secured side of the airport,” the airport said in a release. The outage affected the airport’s main terminal for most of the day Saturday, but the flights kept rolling, with passengers boarding and de-boarding planes via the ground, the airport said.
Airport officials said some flights were delayed Saturday, but there were no cancellations associated with the power outage.
“The CAE team acted quickly and has been working tirelessly with maintenance professionals to restore power to the terminal,” airport executive director Mike Gula said in a Saturday afternoon statement. “We’re doing everything we can to help our passengers traveling today navigate this inconvenience. We’re thankful to see only minor flight delays and no cancellations at this time.”
