There are things you expect to find inside a Popeyes Lousiana Kitchen restaurant. An automobile isn’t one of them.

Emergency officials responded Monday evening after a car crashed through the front of the Popeyes at 7540 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia. The Columbia-Richland Fire Department shared on social media that its crews went to the location at about 5 p.m.

“A lot of damage but thankfully no injuries after a car ran into a restaurant on the 7500 block of Garners Ferry Road, Monday afternoon,” the fire department said on Twitter. “The vehicle crashed through glass windows on one end of the restaurant but no load-bearing walls were affected.”

Photos shared by the fire department showed a white car with tinted windows sitting in the Popeyes dining room, with tables, chairs, booths and copious amounts of glass scattered across the floor. The fire department said the Columbia Police Department also was investigating the incident.

Popeyes is a popular chain known for its Cajun-influenced fried chicken, biscuits, shrimp and and sandwiches. A call to the Garners Ferry Road store on Tuesday morning to check on whether it was open went unanswered.
