Flames could be seen from outside Columbia home, fire department says

One person was injured Tuesday in an early morning blaze at a home, the Columbia Fire Department said.

At about 5 a.m., firefighters responded to a home in the 3900 block of Edmond Drive, according to the fire department. That’s near the Rosewood area.

Flames could be seen coming from a window and the call was upgraded, the fire department said.

After securing a water supply, firefighters forced their way inside the burning building and the blaze was extinguished, according to the fire department.

While searching the home, emergency crews found a person in one of the bedrooms, the fire department said. The person was removed from the home and taken by Richland County EMS to an area hospital, according to the fire department.

Further information on the person’s condition was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

After an investigation, the fire department said the blaze was started by an unattended candle.

Information about the extent of the damages, and if the home was considered a total loss was not available.

There was no word if any residents will be displaced.
