From the publisher: The State’s changes designed to provide you with more options
Dear Reader,
Thank you for reading The State newspaper. On Wednesday, you will notice a new look to our print and digital products. The improvements are part of an ongoing initiative to deliver quality content in ways that are easier to read and navigate.
The process began in February, when we revamped the printed newspaper and updated our digital offerings for customers using computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Changes this week will:
▪ Freshen the design of our print and digital editions, including updated typefaces to improve readability.
▪ Deliver two “tempos” of news and information: one for breaking news, the other for stories that promote understanding through deeper stories, analysis, photos and videos.
▪ Organize content across our digital products in ways to “speed the read” by providing headlines and highlights that summarize the stories.
▪ Provide more breaking news updates and more ambitious, digital storytelling that combines stories, photos and videos.
You will continue to find two important additions to The State that were introduced earlier this year: the daily Palmetto section and the weekly Go Columbia section.
The Palmetto section provides a daily, deeper look at the people, places and issues shaping South Carolina. There is no section like it among South Carolina newspapers.
The Go Columbia section, published each Thursday, provides a useful, entertaining review of things to do in Columbia and the Midlands, including dining, music, nightlife, the arts, outdoor recreation and entertainment. The section is part of a lineup that includes the Go Columbia content on thestate.com and the daily Go Columbia events calendar on the back page of the Palmetto section.
That’s a summary. We will keep you posted about additional improvements. Thank you for being loyal and engaged readers. As always, your opinions are welcome.
We hope you will enjoy these updates to our products as we position our company for the future.
Sincerely,
Sara Johnson Borton
