The Judgment Free Zone is coming to Harbison.
National gym company Planet Fitness is set to open a new facility at 238 Harbison Blvd. in the busy shopping district near Irmo. An exact opening date for the gym has not been publicly announced, but an entry on the Planet Fitness website lists the Harbison location as coming soon and notes that pre-opening sales also will start soon.
Construction inside the facility was ongoing when a reporter briefly went by Tuesday morning.
The Harbison shopping district northwest of Columbia continues to be an enduringly bustling retail area, with a plethora of shops, restaurants, bars, big box stores, movie theaters and the Columbiana Centre mall. The new Planet Fitness is coming to a shopping strip that also includes businesses such as Kirkland’s, Michaels, Honey Baked Ham, GameStop and others.
About 29,000 cars per day travel down the retail stretch of Harbison Boulevard, per state Department of Transportation data.
There are already five Planet Fitness locations in the Midlands, including spots at the Dutch Square mall, in Cayce, on Garners Ferry Road, on Clemson Road and on Two Notch Road. The location on Garners Ferry Road recently reopened after an extensive remodeling.
