A Midlands pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle.

Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill said Wednesday that 49-year-old Darryl Gaither, of Winnsboro, was killed in the collision.

Gaither was was crossing U.S. Hwy 321 in Winnsboro on Tuesday night when he was struck by the oncoming vehicle, according to the coroner’s office. Gaither died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Winnsboro Department of Public Safety and the Fairfield County Coorner’s Office.
