Confederate flags taken from historical monument in Lexington

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC Lexington County sheriff’s deputies are searching for those responsible for taking three Confederate flags from the Jefferson Davis Highway monument in the Oak Grove area, officials said.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Adam Myrick said an anonymous tipster alerted sheriff’s deputies to the missing flags, which are believed to have gone missing Friday evening or early Saturday morning. There was no other vandalism reported at the site, which is on U.S. 1 near Lexington.

Myrick said officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
