Former Gaston town leader dies

Former Gaston Town Administrator Jennifer Poole has died from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident.

Poole, 57, passed away Saturday.

Poole oversaw day-to-day operation of the small Lexington County community for more than a decade.

She went to prison in 2013 after pleading guilty to breach of trust. The sentence came after she took what prosecutors said was more than $50,000 in public money from Town Hall for personal use.

Poole is survived by her husband, Jack “Jay” Poole; two adult children, three grandchildren; and other family members.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday at Gantt Street Baptist Church in Cayce. Thompson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
