A deli decision: Vote for your favorite Midlands sandwich shop in The State’s poll
There’s just something about the buzz of a deli or sandwich shop at lunchtime.
Business people in dress clothes dipping sandwiches in special sauce while whispering the latest office gossip. College students looking for something to cure that hangover from last night. Delivery drivers popping in to grab orders to hustle off to nearby apartments or dorms. Working folks noshing on towering club sandwiches or meaty subs, nourishment to help get them through the rest of their shift.
In Columbia and the Midlands, there are numerous sandwich shops and delis where customers are known to line up for lunch and more. Now, The State wants you to vote for your favorite sandwich shop in the Midlands from a list of 19 places, selected by the newspaper’s staff, in the poll below.
For this poll, we kept it to mostly locally owned places or very small chains, rather than include any larger national chains. (Sorry, Subway, Firehouse and Sub Station II fans.) And we attempted to stick with places that present themselves, for the most part, as delis or sandwich-centered operations.
To be absolutely certain, this is not an exhaustive, comprehensive list of every sandwich shop in the Midlands. Rather, it is simply a sampling of some of the many sandwich shops in the area, chosen by newspaper staffers.
