This SC couple was just featured on the HGTV show ‘House Hunters.’ Here’s what they picked
In an episode of House Hunters that aired Monday, Midlands residents Justin and Raven Fox had three choices: a $250,000 bungalow built in 1948, a 2019 two-story selling for $270,000 in a subdivision and an updated ranch for $230,000.
They had been approved for a loan of up to $285,000.
Justin, doing a residency in family medicine at Lexington Medical Center, wanted something in the $250,000 range. Raven wanted something bigger, thinking about a family one day — they got married in April — and something close to her work at Darla Moore School of Business at USC, where she is a freshman advisor.
Their Realtor John Covington selected and showed them the houses.
First they went to the bungalow, three bedrooms, two baths, 1,422 square feet with a screened porch. Newly painted and hardwood floor refinished.
“This is not going to work,” Raven said, looking at the small kitchen. They entertain 20 at Christmas.
“I don’t hate it,”Justin said. He noted they could operate their winemaking business from a building they could build in the large yard.
Moving on, they went to the newer house, which has five bedrooms.
“It is pretty,” Raven said.
“This is my worst nightmare,” Justin said.
The yard is small with only grass for landscaping. He can stand at the fence and look into the backyard neighbor’s house. All the houses look alike.
“Cookie cutter neighborhood,” he said.
Like all episodes of House Hunters, the more disagreements the better. Heightens the drama. Will they be able to agree?
One left. The updated ranch. Justin likes the price. At $230,000 it’s the least expensive — four bedrooms and 1,426 square feet.
The kitchen and living room are open and bright.
“Exactly what I was looking for,” Raven said.
“I want to buy this one,” Justin said.
The home has a nice backyard, room for the wine building and is single story. They even talk about where to put a desk in the room Raven wants to herself that will always be clean and comfy. Her hideaway.
They went to a Columbia restaurant — there are many pretty shots in and around Columbia in the show — to talk about it.
Then came the reveal after five 10-hour days of filming.
Unexpected.
The $270,000 modern house.
“I can fit all my clothes in one closet,” Raven said.
“It came down to making Raven happy,” Justin said.
