One dead and 7 hospitalized after multi-vehicle collision in Richland County

One person is dead and seven people hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision Thursday evening in north Richland County.

According to a news release statement by South Carolina Highway patrol, the multi-vehicle collision took place at 5:36 p.m. near the Route 277 interchange at the intersection of Parklane Road and Crestbrook Drive.

A 2003 Mercury going west on Parklane collided with five other vehicles, including a 2008 Buick also going west on Parklane. Both vehicles only had a driver in them and the driver of the Buick was hospitalized.

The Mercury also collided with four vehicles going east on Parklane, including a 2011 Nissan Rogue with three people in it, including one person who died. The two others were sent to the hospital. Three people in a 2010 Mercedes Benz and the driver of a 2013 Nissan Altima were also sent to the hospital.

Highway patrol did not release the identities of the drivers and passengers and is still investigating.
