Prayer service for Emanuel Nine planned at Lexington church

The Lexington County Ministerial Alliance and the Lexington County NAACP will be the hosts of a memorial service Friday for the nine victims of the shootings at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church last month.

The service will start at 7 p.m. at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 606 W. Main St. in Lexington.

Prayers, songs and words of inspiration will be offered to honor the nine African-Americans killed at the church June 17. A Columbia area man is facing charges.

The event is the second in the Midlands in as many days to remember the Emanuel Nine.

Thursday, the “Hate Won’t Win” concert in Columbia raised funds for the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund and the Low Country Ministries-Reverend Pinckney Fund. Family members of at least two of the victims, the Rev. Clementa Pinckney and Tywanza Sanders – both graduates of Columbia’s Allen University – planned to attend.
