24 Hour Pickleball at 4590 Augusta Road in Lexington plans a March 1 opening.

The date is set for the debut of an around-the-clock pickleball facility in Lexington County.

24 Hour Pickleball will open on March 1, according to posts on the business’ social media channels. The newly built facility, which includes a large white dome for its indoor courts, will be located at 4590 Augusta Road. That’s right next door to a Lizard’s Thicket restaurant and about 4 miles east of downtown Lexington.

“On March 1, 2024, we’re transforming the game with 24/7 access to pickleball paradise, and the key is in YOUR hands!” 24 Hour Pickleball posted on Facebook, noting that there will be an exclusive mobile app that allows members to unlock the door at the facility at any hour.

24 Hour Pickleball recently installed a new sign outside the business. It’s a giant, green, rotating pickleball.

Membership pricing will start at $60 per four weeks for a “silver” plan, which includes up to two hours of court reservations per day, and $90 per four weeks for a “gold” membership, which includes up to five hours of court reservations daily along with guest privileges and other perks.

The facility will include eight indoor and four outdoor courts, according to a representative of the business.

Pickleball is a sport that has exploded in popularity in the U.S. According to a piece in National Geographic, the sport now has nearly 5 million players across the nation, a number 40% higher than 2020. The Sports and Fitness Industry Association tabbed it the fastest-growing sport in the country.

As noted by USA Pickleball, it is a sport that can be played indoors and outdoors, and it combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Matches can be played in singles or doubles, and it is a game that has proved popular with both young and old players.

The sport of pickleball has been in the headlines in the Midlands recently. A different pickleball project called PickleGarden on the River has been announced for 680 Candi Lane in Columbia near the Lower Saluda River and Riverbanks Zoo. That project, which would be a pickleball and beer garden combo, has drawn online pushback from some who are concerned about the potential environmental impact of the project near the river.

Editor’s note: This article has been updated with information about membership pricing and an updated link to the 24 Hour Pickleball website.
